On Monday night we had all come off the beach, the kids were playing downstairs, the men were getting supper ready and the women were getting showers, etc.
Corey was downstairs with the kids who were swinging in the hammock. The hammock flipped, the kids went flying and Ella fell on the corner of the concrete sidewalk and hit her head. The rest of the kids landed on top of her. I heard Corey calling me and Ella screaming. I got to the bottom of the stairs and he said "It's bad". When he turned her around, blood was running all down her face and we couldn't tell where she was bleeding from. I ran with her upstairs and called for Mitzi who is a nurse. Her and Logan (both nurses) came running and put her in the bathtub. Once we cleaned her up a little we could tell she was bleeding from a gash on her forehead. We loaded up and headed to the ER. Cole, Lena and Caleb were all crying. Mitzi drove us and stayed with us at the ER. We got to the ER about 7:45 and we didn't get called back til almost 10:00 pm. I got all dizzy and lightheaded with all the blood and Mitzi took care of me when I needed her too and then helped answer questions and be with Ella while she was getting stitches cause I couldn't look!
The gash
In the ER waiting room
We took her shirt off cause she had blood all over it. Me and Corey had blood all over our shirts too!
She saw all the blood but not the boo boo and asked if all her skin had fallen off.
Waiting for the dr to come in. She was so tired from a long day of playing on the beach and it was way past her bedtime. It was after midnight before we finally got out of there.
After they put the numbing medicine on. She was such a trooper!
She was so sleepy during her stitches that she laid almost perfectly still.
Poor baby once we got back to the beach house late that night
The next morning - all smiles
Giving us a "thumbs up" that she was ok.
It has not slowed her down one bit!
So many things to be thankful for..
#1 - I was not by myself when it happened or I would have freaked out!
#2 - I was with two nurses who knew what to do and were great with helping us. Mitzi went with us to ER and Logan stayed at house and cleaned up all the blood.
#3 - The NP that sewed her up we were told by one of the nurses was one of the best
#4 - It was late and she was so sleepy that she laid very still and they were able to sew her up really well
#5 - It is on her forehead and kind of falls the way her hair falls.
#6 - She seems unphased by it and hasn't slowed down one bit (even though I wish she would slow down a little so she won't get hurt again!)
Thank You God that even though she had an accident there is so much to be thankful for and she is going to be alright. She just might have a scar on her forehead just like her mama! She got the clumsy gene honest! Love Ella and her determination and good attitude.
We saw some people we knew on the beach and they asked what happened - Her version is "the hammock cut her head and she had to go to the hospital and when she got there, the dr put a thing on her finger". The thing on her finger was to check her pulse I think and was done earlier in the night in triage, she doesn't even mention about getting her head stitched because she was so so sleepy!
Also want to remember - Caleb was so upset by this and stayed up late trying to wait for us to come back from the ER. He fell asleep before we got back. The next day he told me he was so scared because it was a lot of blood and he was afraid if she lost all her blood that she would die. I was so proud that he told me that he and his cousins had prayer for her. Love that boy and his sweet tender heart!
